Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the mechanisms and methods used in the management and evaluation of digital repositories. And to know about the methods and polices of managing digital repositories and the criteria for evaluating digital repositories. The study used the descriptive analytical approach. And the study lies in the need to evaluate and manage digital repositories and its significance to develop criteria for this assessment and then to identify them. The study has found out several findings, the most important of them are there are criteria and methods used in evaluation of digital repositories in the Arab world. But they are differ in their elements and some of them are qualitative and other are quantitative and some of them are depend on the number of users and the items in the digital repositories. Also, some of them have adopted consensus, security, conservation, and availability requirements. And the others focused on content management, metadata management, publishing and statistical reports. The last ones of them focused on coverage, research, policies, services, preservation, deposition, information regulation, access mechanisms and software.
