Study of slum settlements and cultural value orientation in the Kahayan riverbanks, Palangka Raya
Abstract

The general characteristics of slum settlements are physically visible from the condition of the buildings being very dense with low construction quality, the road network is not patterned and not paved, the general sanitation and drainage are not functioning, and the waste has not been managed properly. Meanwhile, the socio-economic conditions of people in slum areas have low income levels, loose social norms, and a culture of poverty that characterizes their lives, which can be seen from apathetic attitudes and behavior. However, this settlement physically provides the main benefits, namely close to a place to earn a living and affordable housing prices either buy or rent. The benefits of housing in addition to considering employment and low prices are the opportunity to get it or high accessibility. Almost anyone unconditionally rambling at any time and any level of ability to pay, can always be accepted and stay there.
